Visions of the Erotic Life - Timothy Leary Lectures 1969

The audience input was wild and unpredictable

Unrestrained, unscripted, and exuberant, Leary refers to these gathers as “our circus”.   The audience passionately embraces a wide range of issues:  there are warnings about combining certain drugs, questions about Leary’s possible bias against homosexuality, and even a young woman who removes her clothes.

I have a special guest that I have invited tonight, who I am going to ask up in a minute.  But before I invite him up to start our circus... Would you get my circus hat, please?

(Audience member) There’s another thing about grass I wanted to talk about, you know. . .it’s different. . .it’s a separate. . .it’s a separate phenomenon.  This is the thing of mixing marijuana with LSD.  There seems to be something that happens that’s really different from either the marijuana or LSD.  And I think that if anyone wants to understand what hell is, I suggest that you take about 300 micrograms of LSD, and , while you’re still very, very high, smoke a lot of marijuana.  I guarantee. . . I know a lot of people that this has happened to. . .

Uh... I’m glad you asked that question.  The question has to do with, “Am I biased against homosexuality?”  And, no, I am not.. . .Far from being opposed to it [homosexuality, ed.], or putting it down, I see it as providing a platform of detachment, and a mobilization and focusing of energy which is perhaps, purer than the heterosexual.  I do warn people to look very carefully at which trip is right for you.  As I said the other night, I think that putting pressure on people to get married, or to have a heterosexual trip, when they’re basically here not to do that, is a very distorting and destructive thing to do.  I think we have to see where we’re at and which path to follow.  I do object to many homosexual relationships because I don’t think they’re loving.  Now this is male homosexual relationships, not female homosexual relationships.  Because really... but a loving relationship between anyone is the glory and wonder of the world, and more power to it.

Uh, what sign are you?  “A Leo”.  A Leo, Uh, we have found in our research that... Leo, of course...” Excuse me-a Stephanie Leo”.  Stephanie Leo.  Well, we have found that Leo women have a solar principle...” A Stephanie- Lovelace- woman.  Stephanie Lovelace. . .Leo.  Leo.  Um, do you have an electron?  “Yeah, a few of them”.  How many?  “What one would you like?”  Right.   “Which one?”  Which electron would I like?  You mean, do I have to have a choice?  “You can take your pick”  Right.
