Choosing the atomic or laser approach to ‘tuning in’In his role as “Johnny Acidseed”, Leary free associates about the cosmic imperatives of living the erotic life after “turning on”. He contrasts two different ways of dealing with the outpouring of energy which comes from turning on.
Sound bite: Disc 3 of 4, Track 3, 2:48-5:02 And ah... from our rudimentary knowledge of atomic physics [pause, ed.] we see that there are two possibilities: what I call the laser model, or the atomic model. Let’s assume that one of these people starts turning on. Now, when you turn on, more energy starts developing. More energy starts developing, and I don’t care how you turn on—you can turn on by turning off, or you can turn on by turning on—but any way that you can get energy going, this happens, and pretty soon you get someone who is developing his own beat. [pause, ed.] Now, the other choice is to hook up in a bipolar relationship. [pause, ed.] Now the atomic, or the bipolar, [pause, ed.] relationship, which is the tantric, yin/yang, male/female, plus/minus model, is embracing, and, as it embraces, it becomes less expansive. That’s a rhythm that you see in all nature. You’ll notice that, as an atom, or as a planetary system, hurtles through space, it makes a helical form: the moon going around the earth, and the earth going around the sun, and the electron going around the proton, and because of the charges, plus or minus, you get an embracing hook-up. |
