At least for those genetically and astrologically so inclined, Leary clearly favors sharing the energy released in this process with a member of the opposite sex.

Now, the main point I’m trying to make tonight as I talk about the psychedelic marriage is this: that the use of psychedelic drugs push you through the hedonic barrier; and they basically turn on your body. Psychedelic drugs turn on somatic and sensory and genetic energies. Therefore, if you’re going to use psychedelic drugs, particularly strong psychedelic drugs, Level 3 and Level 2 and Level 1 drugs such as LSD and mescaline, it seems to me that you’re going to have to work out a system of tantric worship. That is, you’re going to have to harness these physical energies in union with a member of the opposite sex.
